Several years ago the newest craze was juicing. I was so surprised at the traction juicing fruits and vegetables was getting. So what is juicing. Juicing is the process in which you take fruits and vegetables and transform them into juice. If you are trying to give the gut a break then this may work for you, if it is just a day to a few days. Juicing although can be beneficial in short spurts, it is not suggested for long term nutrition. You should also combine fruits and vegetables with your juicing because juicing only fruit can spike your blood sugar. The disadvantage of juicing is it removes many of the nutrients plus the insoluble fiber that the fruits and vegetables provide. These nutrients and fiber helps our body stay regular.

So what about good ole blending. Blending is perfect for those who want to keep all the nutrients. It breaks down the fruits and vegetables without removing the essential nutrients and fiber in it. With the fiber intact blending allows you to stay full longer and keeps your digestive system regular.

At our home everyone drinks a smoothie daily. The trick to having a healthy green smoothie is add more vegetables than fruit. My favorite smoothie recipe is:

2 cups of Spinach
1 cup of Kale
1 whole carrot
1/2 cup Silken tofu
4-5 strawberries 
1 whole avocado 
1 3/4 cup of water

Blend, and ENJOY!!
